Le Bettaix or Les Menuires: where to stay?
Good news: it’s not really a choice you need to make, since the two are only 7 minutes apart by chairlift.
The real question is more: would you rather sleep in a quiet, authentic hamlet with direct access to the slopes, or right in the centre of the resort, a stone’s throw from the shops and the buzz? Our chalets are in Le Bettaix — here’s why, and what you’ll find on each side.
Le Bettaix: an authentic village with ski-in/ski-out access
Le Bettaix is a small Savoyard hamlet crossed by the Doron river, with its stone and timber chalets and clear views over the peaks. People come here for the quiet — no traffic, no crowds — and for direct access to the 3 Valleys: the Bettex chairlift, 150-200 metres from our chalets, drops you in the heart of Les Menuires in 7 minutes and opens onto 600 km of pistes linking Val Thorens, Méribel and Courchevel, the largest linked ski area in the world. You can ski gently back down on a blue run, suitable for children and beginners.
There are no shops on site, but a few handy services: bread and pastries delivered every morning, groceries delivered to the chalet on request, and a ski hire shop just next door.
Les Menuires: right in the middle of it all
The centre of Les Menuires is the opposite: shops, restaurants, bars, a cinema, a shopping arcade — everything within easy reach. It’s also where you’ll find the ski school (ESF) and the Piou Piou children’s club from age 3, as well as a sports centre with a swimming pool and sauna. Handy if you want everything on your doorstep without taking the chairlift or the car.
Le Bettaix and Les Menuires: never really apart
In practice, you’re not choosing between the two, you’re combining them: you sleep peacefully in Le Bettaix, and you reach Les Menuires in 7 minutes whenever you need to, either by ski or on the chairlift as a pedestrian (around €12 return — there’s no shuttle bus from Le Bettaix). Many of our guests spend the day in Les Menuires and come back in the evening to enjoy the peace and quiet, and the hot tub, at the chalet.
Our take
We’re Katia and Cédric, and we grew up here in Le Bettaix — we particularly love the peace of a real mountain village in the evening, and the quick access to the slopes and all the buzz of Les Menuires during the day. With children, getting to the chairlift is especially easy: the road is flat and sees very little traffic. Do get in touch if you have any questions about planning your stay.
Le Bettaix will suit you if...
- you’re after the authenticity of a real mountain hamlet at the foot of the slopes.
- you’re travelling with children and prefer flat, traffic-free access on foot.
- a private chalet with a hot tub appeals to you more than a flat in a residence.
Les Menuires will suit you if...
- you want everything within walking distance, without taking the chairlift.
- your children are enrolled with the ESF or the Piou Piou club and you’d rather be close by.
- you’re after evening entertainment (bars, restaurants, cinema).
